sick day
Hello! I hope you’ve had a great week :)
Today I’m taking a sick day. Today as in yesterday, because you’re reading this on Monday, and today is Sunday for me. And by sick day, I mean I’m sitting on the couch watching Wizards of Waverly Place, waiting on my Indian food to get delivered. I did however attend and get cut from an audition this morning, which made me realize that I really needed this sick day.
This past week was busy. Between work, auditions, rehearsals, and a lovely two-day trip to Connecticut, I’m absolutely pooped. And it seems that my immune system is as well. But it happens! I’m trying to rest my body while also mentally preparing for the upcoming week(s). So I figured I’d take this time to talk about some exciting things coming up!
In one week, I will be performing in the 9th annual I Put A Spell On You LIVE at Webster Hall. It’s very cool to think that I used to watch 54 Below clips on YouTube of this annual Halloween show, and now I get to be a part of it! The show has evolved into somewhat of a dance concert, so I get to dance with friends and work with an amazing choreographer friend! The entire show is a big fundraiser for the Ali Forney Center. All donations and ticket sales go straight to the cause. This foundation provides meals for homeless LGBTQIA+ youth. $2.50 provides one meal, so any donation, no matter how small, helps! If you feel so inclined, you can donate to my personal fundraiser RIGHT HERE <3
On the SAME night, my incredibly talented friend Kiaya is premiering her NEW MUSICAL Devil’s Kettle at 54 Below. Yes, this is a musical based on the classic 2000s horror-comedy movie, Jennifer’s Body. I’ve heard little clips of songs through the year, and I am SO proud of how hard she has worked on this show. The cast is beyond amazing, and the show is going to be electric. So yes, I will be dancing at Webster Hall and then immediately hopping on the N train to get to the show. I know it will be a night full of magic. If you’re in the city and want to experience something incredible, you can get your tickets RIGHT HERE!!
Last thing, I’m excited and quite nervous to announce that I’ll be choreographing a new piece that will be performed in a choreography showcase on November 10th! This showcase is produced by Julia Kane Dance Collective. Julia is a fantastic teacher and friend. The showcase is benefitting the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. (Everything is benefitting amazing causes! Come on dance!) I have A LOT of work to do on this, but I do work well on a deadline. If you’re around and interested in attending, you can get your tickets RIGHT HERE!
So yeah, I’m overwhelmed. But my therapist recently taught me about eustress vs. distress, and I’m happy to report that at this moment, I’m experiencing far more eustress than distress. I’m very grateful for these opportunities that have manifested through hard work and putting myself out there. I will also say that I feel much more connected to the New York dance community than I did earlier this year. Along with making connections, I’ve made actual friends! I’m grateful for my community and new friendships.
I hope you have a fantastic week, take your vitamins!
xoxoxo
